Rants and more rants

Seatbelt laws: Why is it that we are required to wear seatbelts in our cars and motorcyclists do NOT have to wear helmets? If comparing equal accidents, I am safer in my car not wearing a seatbelt without a seat than a motorcyclist wearing a helmet. Here's a good one, I saw a motorcyclist with a passenger, both without helmets, riding down the street with the driver steering one-handed while talking on his cell phone.

RIAA: I know of a site where I can get all the music I want. Everything from rock to opera. In addition, the RIAA ignores the site. In fact, the same site has movies available too. The cost.... FREE. Here is the only catch... you need a library card. Once you have it, check out all the CD's you want, and rip them yourself. Bonus feature - no bad downloads. You rip the music you want at the quality level you prefer.

Ants: Of all the bugs in the world I hate ants the most. Stranger still, my favorite movie is THEM (giant ants). Go figure.

Lost

I'm lost: first, Microsoft decides that it's going to use the PowerPC chip, primarily used in Macintosh's, as the processor of choice for the XBox 360. Now, Apple is talking about developing MacOS for Intel chips?
I bet in near future, Longhorn will be developed for PowerPC.
What next, Sony have it's on OS?

AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

One of the reasons I purchased an Xbox was because of the superiority in graphics, sound and, of course, Live.
Why did Sony have to do this to me?
The processors are also PPC based, but has 1 PPC with 7 cells instead of 3 with 2 cells.
The video is about the same, the exception being that it can go 1080p. Since there are no TV's that can do 1080p, does this really matter? And it's not a standard...
Gigabit ethernet connector.
All this speed, and they are essentially using a laptop HD as add on.
I like the fact you can put in CF, SD and Memory Stick. My guess is this will be a full entertainment system, just like XBox 360.
They did put a Blu-Ray disc in the specs, but it makes me think about this: Sony is in talks right now to come up with a standard for the next gen of DVD. There are 2 formats now, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. HD-DVD is Toshiba and Blu-Ray is Sony. Both have said there is no standard so is Sony muscling in and creating the standard? I would love to see HD-DVD become the standard and have Sony redeveloping PS-NG.
Because of the cost of technology for Blu-Ray, you can now start seeing PS-NG games pushing the $75-$100 mark.
So, both the XBox 360 and PS-NG are graphically intense, with the slight edge to Sony. We'll have to wait on cost, though. I think both will be pushing that envelop...

XBox 360

What a disappointment MTV did with the XBox 360 commercial, oops, special. I would expect more from the Lord of the Rings.

Well, it does look very cool, and the box should scream! A few dual core processors, a video card with 512MB RAM?? That card has the same amount of memory I have on my work machine!! I don't know if my boss will allow me to get away with an XBox 360 for work.

I think Uncle Billy Bob Gates made a beeeg mistake: He said he'll never own an iPod in a press conference while he was touting Windows Mobile 5. Let's see: He gave Apple a few hundred million dollars a few years ago, the core of XBox 360 is a PowerPC (same as Mac's), and some rumors are flying around that a Mac was used to help develop XBox 360. So, why tick off your competition while you still need them to succeed?

By having XBox 360 on a PowerPC platform, it would lead to the natural progression of MS Windows Longhorn being developed for both Intel and PowerPC platforms. Wouldn't that be a kick in the butt to Intel? It would be a very smart move by Gates to do that: send a message to Intel saying they are not the only player in town (yes, AMD exists, but that's about it) and also send a message to the Mac community that they have an alternative also.
